Discovering rapid diagnostics for pollution related cancer triggers in Kenya
Nairobi, Kenya - The UK-Kenya Health Global Innovation Network shatters knowledge silos and ignites collaborative action. By bridging the gap between cutting-edge UK expertise and Kenyan ingenuity, members co-create accessible, affordable solutions to conquer Kenya’s cancer challenges. The main objective of this network is to improve accessibility and affordability of early cancer screening, detection and diagnosis rates in Kenya.
The Centre for Science and Technology Innovations (CSTI) uses a multidisciplinary approach to translate scientific knowledge on chemical toxins into awareness and behavioral changes in human activities. Heavy metal and persistent organic pollutants can trigger cancer cells in the human body. They can also trigger other non-communicable diseases such has high blood pressure, birth deformities, and anemia.
Early detection of exposure to high levels of heavy metals and persistent organic pollutants can alert the medical community to the risk of increased risks of developing cancer.
Prevention is more affordable than cure.
